COINTELPRO is an acronym for the FBI's domestic "counterintelligence program" to nuetralize political dissidents. Although covert operations have been employed throughout FBI history, the formal COINTELPRO's conducted between 1956-1971 were broadly targeted against political organizations.

H. Rap Brown was born in Baton Rouge on 10/04/43. While attending Southern University (1960-1964) he joined the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Comittee (SNCC). He became Alabama project director in 1966 and national director of SNCC after Stockley Carmichael left in 1967. By 1968 Brown had completley abandoned his pacifist beliefs and joined the Black Panther Party. He quickly developed a reputation for extremist views reflected in his book Die Nigger Die! (1969).
