Dr. Carter G. Woodson : Before picking this book up to read I was aware of the knowledge I needed on African American's in the Education system. After reading it I felt empowered and sad. Empowered because now I had a little more knowledge and saddened because now I know what was kept from me all my school years. It amazes me how we were not taught any of our history not even in college.
It also amazes me how people got away with not educating us.
Dr. Carter shows us how 30 years ago the system was designed to keep us ignorant and as experiments.
Quote from Dr. Woodson "Negroes, being objects of charity, have received them cordially and have done what they were required."
To this day they are still using the same system but I think we are smarter now and know where the resources are to get what we need.

Dr. Frances Cress Welsing : I gave this book 5 stars, not that I feel everything in the book is true, but because she hit on some major points that all races need to realize.
The truth is we are a very sick society and we are constantly feeding off one another's sick energy and it is time to stop or we will eventually destroy ourselves.
Her discourse on symbolism and her use of intuition in deciphering the facts made me like this book even more.
There is a lot of false information fed into our subconscious minds on a day to day basis whether on an individual, group and/or culture scale that yes!!! it does make so much sense that we carry around these subconsciously ill feelings that we pass to our children, our children's children and so on, without even knowing it!
Thank you so much Frances for your intuitive insights, for the most part I do believe you hit the nail on the head.
I don't believe any intelligent person should be offended by this book whether Black, White or Homosexual.
Just cut through some of her words and try to reach out to her ideas and concepts.

George G. M. James : This is a must read.
It gives another perspective to the idea that the Greeks created Philosophy.
The author analyzes several known Greeks including Pythagorus, Aristole and Plato and their doctrines to show how they are actually Egyptian in nature.
He even goes so far as to making some strong recommendations on how we as people of humanity, Blacks in particular, can help change the misconception of crediting Greeks for accomplishments they learned from Africans. (Egypt always has been and always will be an African nation.)

Kashif Malik Hassan-El : The Willie Lynch Letter and the Making of a Slave by Kashif Malik Hassan-El is an in your face expose of the way it was and the way that we continue to let it be.
Wake up people, you were brainwashed three hundred years ago and it has not ended.
The plan was so expertly executed that this indoctrination has become well ingrained in our society.
We are doing it to ourselves every time we refer to someone as a "redbone" or talk about "good hair".
Lets give it a break, people. Lets begin to see beyond the physical attributes that we have been taught to think is beautiful or ugly.
Let us remove certain derogatory terms from our vocabulary. We need to think of each other as precious commodities that can not be wasted, spoiled or abused.

Ivan Van Sertima : Over the years I have both read and heard many different theories about the racial and ethnic identity of the people that history refers to as the Moors. According to history, the Moors are the people who invaded and then occupied southern Spain for some 400 years and made their presence felt thoughout Europe. However, the historians who give us there theories on the racial and ethnic identity of the Moors give very little, and in many cases, no credible evidence at all to support them.
In his book The Golden Age Of The Moor, Ivan Van Sertima takes an entirely different approach to identifing the Moors.
He dosen't atempt to explain the theories of others nor does he offer a theory of his own.
Instead Van Sertima presents a compilation of historical information taken from the museums of Europe that describe the Moors.
In his book Van Sertima presents paintings, sculptures, coats of arms, and written records about the Moors, that date back to the period that the Moors were in Europe.
Van Sertima's approach is based upon his premis that the most accurate information about the Moors would be the information recorded by the European historians and the European people that lived during the period of time that Moors were in Europe.
I wholeheartly agree with Van Sertima. I feel that his book, The Golden Age Of The Moor is an excellent work, highly recomended for anyone looking for factual information on the racial and ethnic identity of the Moors

Afrocentricity remains as one of the newest and least understood of philosophical branches. Originating in the late 19th Century through the work of W.E.B. DuBois and his contemporaries, Asante provides a brilliant stepping-stone, just scraping the surface for the uninitiated beginner, into this compelling branch of thought. Particularly interesting are his arguements on human nature and of universality. Afrocentricity is NOT Black nationalist propaganda, it is a legitimate point-of-view and a basis of serious scholarship. Essential reading for any philosophy student.
